Program Head and Professor Rhinology and Skull Base, Applied Medical Research Centre, SVH UNSW (Conjoint A/Prof) and Macquarie University (Clinical Prof)
Richard currently works as a dedicated rhinologist (nose, sinus, allergy and endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery) at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. He is the Head of Rhinology & Skull Base Surgery at the Applied Medical Research Center of UNSW and is A/Professor at both the University of NSW and Macquarie University. After several years of post-training fellowships, including formal fellowships in the USA and UK, Richard practices in Sydney, Australia, as one of only a few dedicated rhinologists in the country.
He has authored over 100 publications, abstracts and book chapters. He currently sits on the editorial board for Rhinology Journal and The International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology. He is an associate editor for American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy and is actively involved in research programs in Sydney.
Richard runs a series of courses with St Vincent’s Hospital every year to further rhinologic education and training in Australia.
A/Prof Shyan Vijayasekaran, MBBS, FRACS
Academic Convenor Paediatric
Associate Professor Shyan Vijayasekaran MBBS, FRACS grew up in Perth, studied at the University of Western Australia and graduated with distinctions in Medicine and Surgery. He subsequently trained in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in London and Perth. Shyan completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology with Professor Robin Cotton at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, University of Cincinnati, USA. He is one of the few international graduates of this prestigious programme. Shyan was awarded the Charles Ferguson prize by the American Society of Paediatric Otolaryngology in 2005.
Shyan works at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and several other institutions in Perth. He is a Clinical Associate Professor affiliated with the School of Surgery and the school of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Western Australia. His clinical and research interests included disorders of airway, voice, swallowing, management of hearing loss and chronic otitis media.
He has published over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals, chapters in textbooks and has been an invited speaker at several national and international meetings. Shyan is married with 4 children and enjoys travel, running and yoga.

Dr David Vokes, FRACS
Academic Convenor Laryngology
After completing ORL-HNS training in New Zealand, David spent two years in the USA to pursue fellowship training in Head & Neck Surgery and in Laryngology.
David is the first Otolaryngologist in New Zealand to complete subspecialty training in Laryngology. David has Consultant appointments at Auckland City Hospital and North Shore Hospital and serves on the Training Committee of the NZ Society of ORL-HNS.
David’s clinical interests include voice disorders, dysphagia, airway stenosis and H&N cancer.
Dr Colin Brown

Colin Brown is a paediatric otologist at Starship Children’s Hospital and a past president of ANZSPO.
His main professional interests are in rehabilitation of children’s hearing loss with cochlear implants and in the management of congenital aural atresia.

David is the Clinical Director of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at North Shore Hospital, Waitemata DHB in Auckland, NZ. He is also WDHB’s Clinical Lead for Patient Safety & Patient Experience. David has a strong interest in innovative approaches for safer care as well as the use of social media to enhance patient experience.
